The Write Up
The ghost ship appears to be a really romantic film at first glance. This is demonstrated by the elegant language, as well as the pink colour, which signals it is a romantic/love flick. The only thing that says otherwise right from the start is the film's title, which suggests that the picture would have a horror element to it. A track shot of the boat with its fairy lights on and everyone dancing is shown at the start. Another feature that makes you think this picture is romantic is the fairy lights stretched across the top of the boat. There is a shot of the sea at the beginning and finish of the clip, so the narrative of the clips revolves around. There was then a bird's eye view of the top of the boat with everyone dancing follows.
The video shifts to what's going on inside the boat as the clip progresses. Everyone is dancing to the singer, and the waitresses are passing drinks around. The performer is dressed in a brilliant red outfit, which indicates both love and danger because the colour red conjures up images of either love or danger. This makes us wonder if the person in the red dress is really good or just a little suspicious. The vocalist is performing a tune that naturally makes us think about love. The majority of the time in this clip, we can hear what everyone else in the clip can hear, which is diegetic sound.
On the boat, everyone is dressed up. This is another another example of what it means to be romantic. Persons clothed in grey are suspicious, we believe, because one of the people in the grey suit winks and signals the singer, who then speaks and urges everyone to ascend to the top of the boat. This is so that those who are acting suspiciously can murder as many people as possible at the same time.
There are three layers of sound after one of the people pulls the lever; first, there is just the typical noise of people chatting, etc. Before the wire slices through everyone, there is a weird noise resembling the sound of the lever working, and there is dramatic music over the top to enhance dramatic effect. There is a point of view shot showing the wire running through one of the people. Things cut and split the screen throughout the footage, much like the wire does when it travels through everyone.
